Coffee Morning Activities
How Coffee Morning Began.
The first Coffee mornings were organised in the Church Centre which was built in 1970 to replace the former Church Room in Glebe Road. One of the first leaders was Jan Ellison, our own Stuart's wife, who was also the sole coordinator who matched drivers to patients. We now have 5 Coffee Leaders and almost 20 helpers who help out on a rota basis, every six weeks or so.
Coffee Morning attendance this year, 2024, has already exceeded 1000.
A great deal has happened over the years and on September 19th, 2024, Headley Voluntary Care Coffee Morning rocked to the music of 'Two Welshmen and another Bloke' or are they 'The Ancient Rockers', 'Misdirection' or perhaps even 'Wrong Direction'? They haven't made up their minds. Shall we help them? Another suggestion, particularly appropriate for the audience is 'Deja Vu'.
STOP PRESS: NEWS
Our Christmas party on Thursday 19th December was a great success. Everything was free as it was an opportunity to thank the coordinators and others who help out. The room looked wonderfully festive and coffee, tea and mulled wine were enjoyed. After Santa and the National Elf Service had delivered a present to everyone in the room, our Ancient Rockers, who have now chosen a name for themselves - not Deja Vu but Deja Who?, entertained us very professionally with lots of flair and humour. Their first song was 'The Young Ones'. This was an inspired choice, we thought, as we looked around at the average age of the audience.
Also, we are pleased to report that the beautiful iced Christmas cake, baked by Ann Sherburn-Hall, one of our coordinators, was won, in the free raffle, by Santa. He was just the right person to win it, as Mrs Santa, Jilly, who bakes for the weekly raffle has broken her wrist after a fall and won't be baking for a while. Thank you Ann.
